Objective approach Example: Cezanne, Geometric and constructional, painting and sculpture logically composed, tends not to be colourful Cubism, Construction, Pop, Abstract colour field and hard edge. |
Subjective approach Example: Van Gough. Romantic, emotional and moody painting. Artist tends to have "highs" and "lows" and work is inconsistent. Composition is not very important and colour is most useful for its emotional response. Expressionism, Fauvism, Abstract expressionism, Surrealism. |
